Every year the football teams of Army and Navy meet on the gridiron.
This year’s game will mark the 118th year of the tradition. It is a game deep in reverence as the cadets of the universities are pledged to serve five years in the armed forces upon graduation.
This year the Delaware River Towns will play a small role in this collegiate rivalry. Prior to kick off Lincoln Financial Field on December 8, 2018, the Army-Navy game ball will cross from Lambertville and into New hope on it’s the way to Philadelphia. Navy will have a team running a game ball from Bancroft Hall in Annapolis through Baltimore before arriving in Philadelphia.
The cadets of West Point do the same. They will leave West Point, New York on Thursday to begin the 157-mile journey to Philadelphia. The dedicated runners of Army and Navy will deliver the game balls before Saturday’s 3 PM kickoff.
After passing through Route 202 in Ringoes, the Army squad will cross the Delaware River at the New Hope-Lambertville Toll bridge at approximately 9:15 AM Saturday before heading toward Doylestown and on to Philly.
