The fertile, scenic rolling landscape of the beautiful Delaware River Towns provides abundant opportunity for all different types of agriculture. While grapes may not immediately come to mind, chances are a vineyard is closer than you might think. Vineyards offer an immersive experience and each has its own unique tradition and feel. Even better yet, they offer indoor wine tastings.
New Hope Winery – New Hope, Pennsylvania
The Pour House at the New Hope Vineyard features an 18th-century barn that offers great wine and a good time. The rustic setting offers wine tastings, sandwiches, and small plate food items. Plus the venue has a packed live music schedule featuring some truly talented acts.
Sand Castle Winery – Erwinna, Pennsylvania
Located just off the banks of the Delaware River, Sand Castle Winery features gorgeous grounds and estate made wines made from the grapes from the Bucks County Vineyard. Their wine is made from vinifera grapes, also known as the noble vines of Europe. They painstakingly manage the vineyard in the same manner as those that thrived a thousand years ago in the “Old World”.
Unionville Vineyards – Ringoes, New Jersey
Unionville Vineyard offers up fantastic wine and a ton of food and music-focused events. Located about 10 minutes from downtown Lambertville. This year they celebrate the 25th anniversary of the opening of their facility and tasting room so make sure to visit and take part in the festivities.
Buckingham Valley Vineyard & Winery – Buckingham, Pennsylvania
Opened in 1966, Buckingham Valley has been the leading vintner in Bucks County and one of the first wineries in Pennsylvania. The offer a popular self-guided tour where visitors can learn about the property, the production process and taste their finished product.
Alba Vineyard – Milford, New Jersey
Alba is a picturesque vineyard with guided tours and a fun tasting in a historic cellar. Every fall the vineyard holds one of our favorite events, the Harvest Food Truck and Wine Festival which also includes some fantastic musical acts.
Tomasello Winery – Lambertville, New Jersey
Although the vineyard is truly located in Atlantic County’s Hammonton township they have several tasting rooms around New Jersey. The Delaware River Towns tasting room is conveniently located in downtown Lambertville. The Tomasello Winery tasting room is a great way to spend an hour or two and enjoy some of the vintages from New Jersey’s second oldest winery.
Beneduce Vineyards – Pittstown, New Jersey
I know, I know…. Pittstown is hardly a River Town. Fair enough, but rules were meant to be broken. In all seriousness, Beneduce Vineyards is among my personal favorites and not quite like any other vineyard I have visited. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained, and the music space is second to none. Seriously, Summer concerts draw crowds of hundreds and are an absolute blast. Also, the Centerfold Pinot Noir is the highest rated wine to ever come out of New Jersey!
The next time you and your significant other or group of friends are looking for something to do, get out and enjoy the beauty… and wine of course of this amazing region.
