ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Guy Clark who passed away in 2016 is one of the best song writers to come out of Texas and Nashville. He was an American icon writing such great hits as Oklahoma border line, Desperados waiting for a train, Out in the Parking Lot, Randall Knife, and LA Freeway. He received the AMA Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting in 2005. For many years Verlon Thompson traveled the world by Guy’s side and played incredible guitar and sang harmony behind Guy’s deep voice. Shawn Camp also toured and recorded with Guy and has a “day job” of singing and playing guitar with Jerry Douglas and the Earl’s of Leicester. Verlon and Shawn have teamed up to do a limited number of shows as a tribute to Guy. We were lucky enough to book one of the few they’ll be doing.
It was just another one of Guy Clark’s keen ideas to introduce the “Okie” and “Arkansawyer”. He knew them both well but they didn’t know each other when they all took the stage that night in Little Rock over twenty years ago. With Camp on his left and Thompson on his right, Guy broke into “Texas Cookin’”. When the smoke cleared a couple of hours later, a strong and steady friendship was born.
