Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing at Ralph Stover

The Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing trip is designed for first-time climbers (no indoor or outdoor experience) and for those who would like to transition from indoor gym climbing to climbing on real rock in the great outdoors. The Intro trips are also good for intermediate climbers as the guides set up a multitude of easy, medium, and hard climbs.

The groups are generally limited to 12 participants and Valley to Summit generally maintains a guide-to-client ratio of 1:6, providing everyone with time to climb and for individualized instruction.

– Belay Instruction
– Climbing Gear (all gear included: shoes, helmet, harness, rope, etc.)
– Body Movement
– Tying into the rope using a figure-eight on a follow-through knot.
– Climber and Belayer Safety Checks
– Climbing Techniques
– Communication Calls
– Foot Positioning: Smears, Edging
– Use of Rock Features: Edges, Slopers, Buckets, Pockets
– Objective & Subjective Hazards Unique to Outdoor Climbing
– Climbing Ethics & Leave No Trace Considerations

You will have ample opportunity to put to practice your newly acquired skills as you top-rope climb cliffs of various heights on a multitude of routes with unique rock types and features.
