Event Details

Join us for an evening of French culture with a screening of “Les Misérables” – nominated for this year’s Best International Feature Film at the Oscars.

Followed by a discussion with Gary Lee Kraut, editor of award-winning web magazine France revisited, plus a French-themed lobby reception.

“Les Misérables” is a contemporary take on Victor Hugo’s classic and was nominated for a best foreign film Oscar. Filmmaker Ladj Ly used modern-day Montfermeil, the setting of Victor Hugo’s novel, to stage his own impassioned cry against oppression. Based on Ly’s powerful, 2017 César-nominated short film of the same name about what happens when power ends up in the hands of people who don’t know how to control it, “Les Misérables” is inspired by the 2005 Paris riots.
