Hello there!
Thank you so much for your interest in our Instagram takeover! We just need a few things from you and then you’ll be on your way to getting your week.
We assume you are here because you follow @delawarerivertownslocal on Instagram and want to share your perspective on the beautiful Delaware River Towns for a week. If you made it to this form some other way, be sure to check out our page and familiarize yourself with what we do before submitting anything in this form.
Your patience is appreciated–please only fill out this form once! We will be in touch via email to let you know the next date available for a takeover.
Delaware River Towns Local Full Guidelines
It is important that you read through the following before finishing the form. This will explain what’s expected of you during your week, and do’s and don’ts. It should answer any of your questions about how takeovers work! If it doesn’t answer your question, feel free to ask.
2021/COVID-19 NOTE:
Our rules are different for the foreseeable future. We are allowing guests to post old photos to the account during their week rather than requiring new work taken during your week. If you are not comfortable going out and exploring now, that is fine! Old photos, or photos taken from your yard or neighborhood walks are welcome, but we do not want you to put yourself or others in harm’s way to go out and shoot during your week if you are not comfortable doing so at this time!
If you fill this form out correctly and meet our criteria, we will contact you to assign your week.
You can begin posting photos on your MONDAY, and your last day to post will be on SATURDAY. On the Sunday before your week, we will post your announcement to our feed and we will provide you with the login information for the account. Depending on where you log in from or what kind of device you’re using, you may get asked by Instagram for a verification code. This is emailed to us and we will forward it as soon as I see it.
Only post photos that were taken around the Delaware River Towns, but otherwise they can be in any genre/style/medium you’d like. Some people shoot with their phones (we used to require that back in the day!) and others use their DSLRs/fancier equipment. Anything goes!
Post at least one photo a day and no more than two. You can include multiple photos in your posts, and videos are acceptable as well. Please do not post anything to our Story. We reserve the space for sharing posts that tag us and for other announcements and features.
Please share the news of your takeover on your own account.
Captions are important to this project as well as your photos/artwork. You can share a story or memory, give us a history lesson, or ask a question. Whatever you do, make sure you sign all of your captions “@YOURACCOUNT for @delwarerivertownslocal” so people know who took the photo and so they check out your page, too.
Please remember that this is a community project and our goal is to be friendly and welcoming to everyone who stumbles upon us. This should also be obvious, but don’t post anything that violates Instagram’s terms of service. Avoid nudity and graphic content. We do not tolerate hate speech or bullying. We reserve the right to remove anything you post that doesn’t comply with Instagram’s terms of service or with the rules we’ve given you. Anything egregious will result in us ending your week early and possibly deleting your posts altogether.
The Delaware River Towns are one of the most picturesque areas in the country and we want our profile to reflect that.
We encourage the use of hashtags to help the project grow, but prefer if you post them in a separate comment and not directly in the caption. We also encourage geotagging locations so other people who go to that location find Delaware River Towns Local and so people who follow us can check out the cool places you go! Occasionally someone will comment something about how sharing locations opens them up to getting vandalized or overrun, but our philosophy is that people who are determined to do that will find a way with or without us, and no place is truly “secret”–books, magazines, maps, etc. all exist. Feel free to ignore these comments.
Reply to any comments/questions on your posts from your own account, not the Delaware River Towns Local account. This accomplishes two things: First, it reminds the person who took the photo–YOU, not us. Second, it helps us preserve the “voice” of Delaware River Towns Local. Please ignore any “housekeeping” questions, like “how can I be featured?” We will get those!
Try not to open any direct messages we may get during your week, as this can cause us to not know they’re there. Definitely do not send or reply to any messages either.
If you know of some great people who might be interested in contributing to our project, give them a follow to let them know we exist. Don’t feel the need to follow back every new follower you might see. We try to stick to following people we previously featured, people we would like to feature, and people/businesses that are in the Delaware River Towns. Also, ignore any photos people tag Delaware River Towns Local in. It is up to you if you want to “like” any photos on the feed, but please don’t comment on anyone’s photo from the Delaware River Towns Local account.
Most importantly, have fun! Thank you for doing this. This isn’t meant to be a chore–make it fun for yourself and enjoy it. If you need any support during your week, email us, we’re happy to help. We want this to be as positive an experience as possible for you, so please let me know if there is anything we can do to help. If anyone harasses you, posts rude things, or makes you feel uncomfortable, please bring it to our attention and we will handle it.
