Paper Weight: Works in Paper by Elsa Mora
January 18 – April 12, 2020
Opening: Saturday, January 18, 6 – 8 PM
Curated by Jill Kearney
ArtYard is pleased to present Paper Weight: Works in Paper by Elsa Mora, an exhibition of Elsa Mora’s exquisite meditations on consciousness, perception, thinking, judgement, language, and memory, constructed solely of paper and glue. The exhibition includes six series of work, the largest of which, One Hundred and One Notions, is a collection of beguiling paper sculptures, each representing a different mental disorder from Tourette’s Syndrome to Schizophrenia and Fregoli Delusion. The works reflect on issues of identity, connectivity and survival. This exhibition is free, open to the public and on view at ArtYard from January 18 – April 12, 2020. Our gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11-5 PM.
Born and raised in Cuba, Elsa Mora moved to the U.S. in 2001. She has been a visiting artist at the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco State University, The Art Institute of Boston, the MoMA Design Store, and the National Gallery of Art. Her work is in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, the Long Beach Museum of Art in CA, and The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, in Eugene, Oregon, where this exhibition originated. Mora is one of the founding members of ArtYard, where she is artistic director and curator.
