With Mother’s Day comes the promise of a barrage of passive-aggressive comments about your lack of career accomplishments and eagerness to ignore the woman who birthed you. (Kidding, Mom.)
With Mother’s Day comes the promise of brunch, that wonderful meal that straddles breakfast and dinner and makes drinking before noon completely acceptable. If you haven’t yet made a reservation, below is a compilation of restaurants in the Delaware River Towns that do brunch exceptionally well. Read it quickly, then act fast, because Mother’s Day brunch reservations go faster than your mom can say, “I guess you have your own life now.”
Canal House Station | Milford, NJ
Chef-owners Melissa Hamilton and Christopher Hirsheimer are up for the James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic region. While their menus change weekly, you can expect every dish at Canal House Station to be seasonal, beautifully restrained, and relentlessly satisfying.

The Hattery Stove & Still | Doylestown
The Hattery does brunch seven days a week. Which is to say they’ve got it down to a science. You’ll find classics like huevos rancheros and smoked salmon Benedict, along with soon-to-be classics, including cinnamon apple cider beignets and short rib onion soup. The atmosphere is rustic but highly stylized.

Logan Inn | New Hope
Mother’s Day brunch at the Logan Inn was, for a long time, humdrum and overpriced. But that was your mom’s Logan Inn. The newly renovated inn has an all-new restaurant called Ferry + Main that’s being shaped by Greg Vassos, one of the region’s most respected farm-to-table chefs. (He previously helmed the kitchen at the acclaimed Brick Farm Tavern, in Hopewell, NJ.)

River House at Odette’s | New Hope
If dear ol’ Mom is always pining for the “good old days,” she should be deeply impressed by River House, which is steeped in nostalgia and elegance. For Mother’s Day, the riverside restaurant will be doing a buffet brunch that will include a bakery section, breakfast staples (including made-to-order omelets), a cheese and charcuterie section, a selection of seafood, and multiple carving stations.

Charcoal | Yardley
Charcoal is no-frills, but don’t be misled. Its breakfast menu is as thoughtful and as masterfully executed as any of the others featured here. Try the smoked salmon omelet. Actually, it’s a holiday. Splurge and get the brioche doughnut. Or the blueberry pistachio pancakes. Also, the view of the Delaware more than compensates for Charcoal’s minimalist interior.
