Nervines are a general term for herbs that have a calming and soothing effect on the nervous system. This category includes herbs that help lessen anxiety, insomnia, depression and pain. We live in a culture where life is extremely fast-paced, and it can be hard to slow down and take time for ourselves. In addition to everyday stressors, there are countless things happening in the world right now where it is easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless. Although nervines can’t solve all these issues, they can provide powerful medicine, and can help us slow down, take a deep breath, and work on healing our own hearts.
In this class we will talk about some of my favorite nervines, how to choose ones that are most fitting for you, and the best ways to incorporate them into your daily life. Each student will get to sample some herbal teas and tinctures and go home with handouts.
