From time to time I get to travel from San Diego to Hunterdon County, New Jersey and take the ambiance of the Delaware River Towns. Growing up in Somerset County New Jersey I was familiar with the area, but it was not until I stayed there for a length of time did I realize how special it is.
Delaware River Towns visitor highlights:
Best Place for a Run: Being a fitness enthusiast I always look for great scenic runs. My favorite run through the Delaware River Towns starts in Sergeantsville on Rosemont Ringoes Road down Rittenhouse across Sandy Ridge Rd. If am feeling adventurous I will run past Dilts Park to Lambertville Headquarters Rd. This run offers scenery, wildlife, woods and a safe public environment to run.
Best Dinner Value: Under The Moon Cafe, located at 61 Main St. Lambertville, NJ has everything you need. Tuesday night offers a pre-fix specials for $25 per person and is a can’t miss. I enjoyed every bite of the meal. [NOTE: BYOB]
Best Bloody Mary: Across the Delaware on the Pennsylvania side in New Hope is The Landing. I am always in search a proper Bloody Mary. Not too spicy, not too sweet, proper garnishes and the perfect acidic balance etc – I can go on and on…The Landing’s Bloody Mary with traditional garnished and a large shrimp hit the spot 100%. Plus, what can I say about the views of the majestic Delaware River — absolutely perfect.
Favorite Pizza: Maria Rosa’s at 541 Sergeantsville Rd, Flemington, NJ is my favorite. Now, I know, technically a Flemington mailing address is not considered part of the River Towns, but this is on the edge of consideration and worth it 100%. Tell Mike & Raff I sent you and that people who live in California do know good pizza.
Chinese Food: Like Bloody Marys, I am a sucker for great Chinese food. Won ton soup and beef and broccoli top my list of go-to meals. Panda Bistro in Lambertville always hits the spot. Nothing fancy, nothing crazy — just great home cooked Chinese menu with something for everyone.
Favorite Beer: The Bengal Gold IPA is my favorite local beer. Brewed at Triumph Brewery in New Hope, PA the Bengal Gold is the perfect beer paired with dinner or after a day of sightseeing and Delaware River Towns Events.
Favorite Bar: Artie’s Beach Bar has everything for your night out. Friendly staff and locals, sports on TV, live music or a jukebox and anything you care to imbibe in. Also, I might add, one heck of a bar pretzel. It’s quite large, so plan on sharing.
That’s the first round of my recommendations as a visitor to your amazing area. We are already planning a return trip to enjoy foliage and more of the mentioned treats. If your favorites are not on the list, please let us know so we can try this Winter!
