Don’t call it a comeback – actually, you can call it a comeback. After navigating a difficult couple of years, during which its future appeared questionable, at best, the volunteer-run Flemington DIY announced its return with a splashy party on May 14 at its new space on Stangl Road in Flemington.
Flemington DIY is a nonprofit whose mission is to “provide an inclusive art space that engages the community with the burgeoning local arts scene, inspires social change, and invigorates the economic development of Flemington.”
“After an uncertain two years, Flemington DIY lives on – bigger, better, and stronger than ever,” founder and executive director Jeff Hersch told the Bucks County Herald. “This reopening is a surreal moment, and I’m so proud of all the hard work our board and volunteers have put in – plus the support of our donors and members – to make this day a reality!”
The party included a “makers market,” which will now be a monthly fixture on the organization’s calendar. Arts and crafts, unique gifts, and vintage goods from local artisans and collectors will be available. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A slew of other offerings is also on the horizon. Birth Stories: How We Become Parents
June 4
An exhibit of written, visual, and musical depictions of all the different ways families of every kind are made. “Sharing how we become parents, with all the highs and lows, challenges overcome and strength found, can be an empowering experience, allowing you to be seen and also giving fortitude to others,” reads a preview description.
Begins June 4
The Julian Hartwell Trio with Stephanie Cole kicks off the summer-long series. Rio Bossa performs on June 25. Then it’s The Simon Moullier Quartet on July 16 and The Zachary Hahn Quartet on July 30. Tickets for all shows are $15.
Tell Us Everything: Real People Telling Real Stories
June 9
This is the first installment of what will be a monthly series. Locals will get up and share a story that’s front of mind for them. Some will veer toward the hilarious, while others will feel deeply personal. And they’ll likely be all the more so because the storytellers won’t be permitted to read their stories. If you’re inspired by what you hear, a segment at the end of the night called “Two-Minute Tales” will be reserved for anyone from the audience who wants to share. Tickets are $10-15.
